RUN-DMC's self-titled debut album, released in 1984 on Profile Records, was a groundbreaking release in the history of hip-hop. The album, produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, marked the first time that a hip-hop act had been signed to a major label and it helped to establish the genre as a mainstream force. The album features the hit single "It's Like That," which became one of the first rap songs to receive significant airplay on pop and R&B radio stations.
